So Many HTPLA Finishes — Which One Do You Pick?
HTPLA doesn't just come in solid colors anymore. Glitter flecks, translucent glows, metallics, and multicolor blends all change how a print looks, photographs, and holds up. Here's how to match the finish to your project.
Glitter HTPLA
Glitter-infused filament adds real sparkle and texture to your prints, catching light at every angle.
- Best for: Cosplay props, jewelry, ornaments, gifts
- Watch out for: Glitter particles can be slightly more abrasive on nozzles over time — a hardened steel nozzle is a smart upgrade if you print a lot of it
- Try: Empire Strikes Black with Silver Glitter, Glitter and Gourd Orange, Candle Light White with Gold Glitter
Translucent HTPLA
Translucent filament lets light pass through, creating a soft glow effect when backlit with LEDs — fantastic for lamps, lanterns, and light-up props.
- Best for: Light fixtures, lanterns, stained-glass-style decor, night lights
- Tip: Print with slightly thinner walls to maximize light transmission
- Try: Iridescent Ice Clear Translucent, Blue Ice Translucent, Soda Green Translucent
Metallic HTPLA
Metallic filament has a shimmery, brushed-metal look that photographs beautifully and adds a premium feel without the weight or cost of real metal.
- Best for: Trophies, decor pieces, jewelry, display models
- Tip: Print walls oriented to catch light for the best metallic sheen; consider a light post-print polish
- Try: Tom's Tangerine Orange Metallic Gold, Cupid's Crush Metallic Pink, Artobot Electric Lemonade Metallic Yellow
Multicolor & Nebula Blends
Multicolor filaments shift and blend hues as you print, so every layer band looks a little different — great for organic or abstract designs where no two prints are quite the same.
- Best for: Vases, abstract art, statement pieces, gifts
